Nightlife
Mazatlan’s nightlife is endlessly fun, and whether you’re visiting Mexico as part of a couple, on your own, or as a college student on Spring Break, you’ll find no shortage of excitement. Holiday seasons, like Easter, mark a time for dancing, partying, and great fun on the beach. At the end of February, Mazatlán residents celebrate in the streets with live music and dancing during a weeklong festival for Carnival, one of the largest in the world. Throughout the year, though, Mazatlán’s nightlife is usually bumping late into the night.
Sightseeing
One of the best places to visit while in Mazatlán is the Plaza Machado. This plaza is lined with palm trees, cafes and courtyards, with an iron gazebo in the middle of the plaza serving as a center stage for street performers and other shows. This place is a good location to take a walk or dine in the evening after a day of touring the city. Just around the corner you will find the Angela Peralta Theater, a beautiful and lively performance center where you will be treated to excellent performances and fancy seating. Another symbolic and famous natural attraction is El Faro, the second highest operating lighthouse in the world. The climb to the structure can be strenuous, but once you reach the top you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and harbor.
Shopping
There are plenty of places to shop in Mazatlán. Outside of the historic center, Centro Mercado is packed with local goods like pottery, clothing and crafts. While Zona Dorada may have the largest selection of shops, the area is a major tourist trap. Explore the rest of the city’s open-air markets and indoor shopping mall for local arts and crafts, like silver jewelry and seashell-adorned souvenirs. There are also two large malls conveniently located near most resorts.
